Review of Laura’s Films from the Daily Californian

From the heap of quality storytelling BAWIFM curated, no one would guess that Laura Van Zee Taylor’s documentary “The Scenes” and short “Somewhere” are her first productions. With the latter, Taylor marries tight plot construction with a broad range of shots. Wide views of a strangely majestic, glowing suburbia and escapist nightlife limo scenes present an intimate and empowering look at options for motherhood with a resounding “it’s never too late” theme.

I was thrilled to have my first two films presented again via Bay Area Women in Film and Media’s Short Showcase — this time at the new Oakland Parkway theatre.  Can I just say, I LOVE OAKLAND.  This was truly the best audience I have ever had.  A full house of laughter and appreciation.  Thank you sooooo much, Oakland and BAWIFM!

Then, to my further delight, my fellow filmmakers and I got this wonderful review from The Daily Californian!

(My local friends are going to love that she calls our little town “a strangely majestic, glowing suburbia.” )
